Electronic Arts and PopCap Games announced Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes today, aiming to release it on mobile platforms later this year.

Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes is essentially PopCap Games’ take on Blizzard Entertainment’s collectible card game, Hearthstone.  For instance, players have the ability to collect hundreds of heroes and then take them and test their strategy in competitive (or casual) matches against other players in online play.

Another similar element to Hearthstone that Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes has is its epic missions. Players can take a step away from multiplayer battles and head into adventure mode, where they’ll challenge elite bosses and opponents in order to unlock new and special heroes.

Here’s how EA and PopCap Games puts it:

“Battle and adventure by yourself against AI in the single player campaign, or battle against other players in real-time multiplayer! Challenge your friends or test your powers and strategy against the rest of the world in casual or ranked multiplayer battles – all in real time. Complete Daily Quests to earn rewards to expand your roster of Heroes and sidekicks.”

There’s currently no solid release date, as the only availability that’s been hinted at is later in 2016. It’s likely that we’ll see an official release by early summer, as EA has historically launched Plants vs Zombies titles around June or July.

Anyone looking forward to Plants vs. Zombies: Heroes?
